These Terms govern your use of the Tonelee Chrome extension and related backend services (the "Service"), operated by Sebastian Carpenter ("we," "us"). By installing, signing in to, or using Tonelee, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
Tonelee rewrites the tone of text you write and interprets ("decodes") messages you receive, using third-party AI (Anthropic's Claude). Output is AI-generated and may be inaccurate, incomplete, or unsuitable. You are responsible for reviewing all output before using it.
You must sign in with a Google account. You are responsible for activity under your account. You must be at least 13 (or the minimum age of digital consent in your jurisdiction) and able to form a binding contract.
Free plan. Includes a daily allowance of rewrites, decodes, and analyses. Limits may change.
Paid plans. Pro ($8 USD/month) and Max ($16 USD/month), or other prices shown at checkout, billed through Stripe, with higher limits and dynamic personality learning.
Auto-renewal. Paid subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period at the then-current price, charging your payment method, until you cancel. You authorize these recurring charges.
Cancellation. Cancel anytime via "Manage subscription" in Settings (Stripe portal). Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
Refunds. Except where required by law, payments are non-refundable and we do not provide refunds or credits for partial periods. Where local law grants you a non-waivable cancellation or refund right, that right still applies.
Price changes & taxes. We may change prices with reasonable notice; changes apply to subsequent periods. Prices may exclude applicable taxes.
You agree not to: use the Service for unlawful, harmful, harassing, deceptive, or abusive purposes; exceed, evade, or automate around usage limits, or share one account across many users; reverse-engineer, scrape, resell, or build a competing service; attempt to extract API keys or credentials; or submit others' personal/confidential data without a lawful basis. We may apply fair-use limits, throttle, suspend, or terminate abusive accounts.
You retain ownership of text you submit. You grant us a limited license to process it solely to provide the Service (including transmitting it to our AI provider). We do not claim ownership of AI output. You are responsible for having the right to submit any text you provide.
The Service depends on Anthropic, Cloudflare, Google, and Stripe, and is subject to their terms; we are not responsible for their acts, outages, or changes.
THE SERVICE AND ALL AI OUTPUT ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND. Tonelee does not provide legal, medical, financial, or professional advice, and we do not warrant the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that output will be accurate or appropriate.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNTS YOU PAID US IN THE 3 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM, OR (B) USD $20. Some jurisdictions do not allow these limitations, so they may not fully apply to you.
You may stop using and uninstall at any time. We may suspend or terminate access for violation of these Terms or to comply with law. Sections that by their nature should survive do survive termination.
We may update these Terms; material changes will be indicated by updating the "Last updated" date. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, USA, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Disputes will be resolved in the state and federal courts located in California, USA, unless applicable consumer law provides otherwise.
