Tonelee is a Chrome extension that analyzes and adjusts the tone of text you write in email composers, chat boxes, and document editors, and decodes the meaning of messages you receive. This policy explains what data Tonelee collects, how it is used, and who processes it. By installing Tonelee, signing in, and using the service, you agree to this policy.
When you request a rewrite, analysis, or decode, the relevant text is sent — over HTTPS — to our backend (operated on Cloudflare) and then forwarded to Anthropic's Claude API to generate the result. This text is processed transiently, is not stored in our database, is not retained after the request completes, and is not used by us to train any model.
Tonelee requires sign-in with Google. We receive and store your Google account email and a stable Google user ID, used solely to identify your account, apply your subscription, and meter usage. We do not receive your Google password, contacts, or other Google data.
To enforce plan limits, we store per-day counts of rewrites, analyses, and decodes. We do not store the content of those requests — only the counts.
Paid subscriptions are processed by Stripe, which collects your payment details directly — we never see or store your full card details. We store only your Stripe customer ID and subscription status.
Settings, personality profile, learned Dynamic profile, toggles, and blocklist are stored locally in your browser and synced via your own Google/Chrome sync. We do not retain a copy.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your data, and we do not use it for advertising.

Each processes data under its own privacy policy: Anthropic, Cloudflare, Google, Stripe.
Data is transmitted over HTTPS. Our backend runs on Cloudflare; the Anthropic API key and all secrets are stored server-side and never exposed to the extension. Payment data is handled entirely by Stripe (PCI-compliant).
Depending on your location (e.g., GDPR in the EU/UK, CCPA in California), you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data, and to withdraw consent.
Tonelee is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their data.
We may update this policy; material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date.
